Podcasting Books
I'm the author of three books featuring podcasting:
- Active Learning Through Drama, Podcasting, and Puppetry :: for teachers and librarians
- Podcasting at School :: for teacher and librarians
- Podcasting 101 :: for middle-grade readers
Online Tools and Resources
The Myna audio editing tool by Aviary is a free, web-based tool with built in audio loops. It's my new favorite for student podcasting projects. They are currently beta-testing a version for teachers which easily gathers all student work for assignments in a single location. Aviary hosts the final projects, which can be embedded into blogs, wikis, or Web pages.
Here's a list of 25 podcast/videocast projects, based on Podcasting at School.
Here is my wiki about creating podcast book trailers, presented at the Sam Houston Book Festival in November 2009.

Sample Podcasts
Behind the Scenes
Students took portable equipment literally behind the scenes for this backstage report from the schoolwide concert.
Biography Interview / Trivia Contest: Columbus
A quick podcasting club project to complement the study of early explorers in fourth grade. Students were given the format (interview) but could choose any curriculum topic.
Biography Radio Play: Sacagawea
A fifth grade team project to shake up the regular biography report.
Commercial: Lego Star Wars
For our lunchtime podcasting club, creating a commercial was always the first project. The entire vocal track can be recorded in a single take, students learn to add music or sound effects, and the overall project can be completed quickly for immediate satisfaction. This one hit the bullseye!
Historical Fiction Radio Play: The Oregon Trail
Fifth graders synthesize their research on the Oregon Trail with this original work of historical fiction.
Interviewing Students: Battle of the Books Launch
The Battle of the Books titles are held in strictest confidence until the day of the launch. Here, the librarian interviews students about which titles and formats intrigue them the most. This gathers authentic assessment on which aspects of the launch were most meaningful and shares student excitement with one another.
Public Service Announcement: Use Your Paws, Not Your Claws
Students brainstormed topics that they felt would benefit the school. A quick and easy introduction to podcasting, similar to the commercial topic above.
Student Responses to Literature: Rosalyn Schanzer's The Old Chisholm Trail
After a readaloud of The Old Chisholm Trail, our student teacher interviewed first graders about what life on the trail was like.
